GEO Specialty Chemicals – Batchstill Access Structure

GEO Specialty Chemicals UK Ltd is a leading producer of naphthalene sulfonate products used as dispersants in the concrete admixture, gypsum, oil field, ceramics and polymerisation industries.

GEO required HFL to design and construct a replacement structure on a speciality chemicals plant.
The structure provides support for a number of services including process pipework, utilities pipework, cable ladders and cable trays.

HFL removed the existing steelwork structure from around the Batchstill along with the satellite platforms and installed a new steelwork access platform.
A scaffold was also erected to support pipework, cable trays and instrumentation, and to allow safe access to the steelwork structure for the dismantling of the existing Batchstill access platform.
Once the existing platform was removed, a civil contractor was employed to access the area and carry out the piling and construction of new support plinths.
With the new foundation in place, the replacement Batchstill access platform was successfully erected.

The new structure was safely installed without and the loss of production was minimised to an acceptable level.
